TABOO – Part 3 by Ash Alliu

Mum: Taiwo, she is waiting for you.

As Taiwo came into the room, the atmosphere got lighter. It was the first time that Yinka felt butterflies in her stomach when she saw him. He was a well built 32 year old man. His caramel skin was smooth and his eyes were as blue as the clear sky. He was thick and tall, his lips were full and he had a lock beard that matched his well-defined eyebrows .

Yinka: Hey Taiwo, please can you come closer? I am not going to bite you.

Taiwo quickly rushed to Yinka’s side. He desperately needed to be close to her. It was like a baby in urgent need of warmth and safety in his mother’s arms. He made himself comfortable and laid next to her. And then it happened, tears rolled down Taiwo’s eyes.

Taiwo: What did I do wrong? Ever since I met you, I have been trying to reach out to your heart, but you keep it closed all the time. You have made me feel like I don’t deserve you. The only time we become one is when you are sad. And now, you have given me my greatest joy and deepest pain. My heart’s desire is growing inside of you and I have promised my life to another woman.

Yinka was silent, she couldn’t say a word. She knew she was in love with him, but she was brought up to be strong, never to show her emotions. She got hold of Taiwo’s right hand with one hand, and held his face with the other.

Yinka: Taiwo, I remember when I first met you at Hugh Hefner’s 69th birthday. I was quite impressed when I saw you sitting down in a corner, while all your teammates were having fun with the Bunnies at the mansion. I was so nervous that day. It was the first time I ever went to the Playboy mansion.

Taiwo: Yeah and there you were, balancing your body in those Gucci heels. I think you were a bit tipsy that day. I remember you accidentally pouring your champagne on me, cause you tripped on Lil Wayne’s foot.

Yinka: It was so embarrassing. I bet he thought I was making a move on him, but to his disappointment, I landed in your arms.

Taiwo: I don’t know how I was able to catch you. I guess it was a reflex. You know how we do in basketball, we need to put our eyes on the ball. Once it is in our hands, we don’t let go. That night, you were the ball. The funniest part of the story was when you looked into my eyes and asked me if I was wearing contacts.

Yinka: Hahaha, yeah I made a fool of myself that night.

Taiwo: Me too. Contrary to public belief, I am quite slow when it comes to women. I was the only child and I never knew my mum. I grew up with grandma. So you can imagine, there was zero action in the house. Girls were scared of grandma.

Yinka: Well, I must have been lucky. Your grandma used to bake nice cakes for me and pamper me each time I visited. I miss her so much.

Taiwo: I miss her too. I remember how you were there for me the day she passed away. A day became a whole month in my apartment, waking up to your sweet smile.

Yinka: You know I will never let you fall. But Taiwo, it doesn’t matter what we had, you are engaged. You are getting married and well, I am keeping this baby. If I may ask, how did you meet Ashley?

Taiwo: She has been my banker since I became a professional basketball player and as you can imagine, she was my friend before we became something else. Although she is an attractive woman, I fell for her when you dumped me on my birthday for like the “30th” time, and left to Paris for Fashion Week. Yinka, I was hurt and confused, but she was there for me… That night, I thought I was doing the right thing.

Yinka: And the right thing was?

Taiwo: Getting over you. The night you returned, I was ready to give us one last chance. I wanted to propose to you. But before I knew it, you were gone. I begged you to come back, but you refused.

Yinka was shocked. That was the same night she met Ashley.

Taiwo: Yinka Anderson I love you, ever since I set my eyes on you.

Taiwo held Yinka and started kissing her with such passion that he wasn’t able to hear Ashley coming in.

Ashley: Excuse me, am I interrupting something?

Taiwo jumped out of the bed and faced Ashley. He was embarrassed and confused. Yinka on the other hand, started to wonder about Ashley. There was something weird about her.

Ashley: Honey, I came here because you were not picking up your phone. I was worried about you. Baby, I think your presence is needed outside. Yinka’s mum is having a word with the doctor.

Taiwo went out of the room in silence. Ashley went closer to Yinka while giving her an intimidating look.

Ashley: It looks like Taiwo is still in love with you. What a fool. He doesn’t know you as well as I know you.

Yinka: Shut up Ashley. You don’t know shit about me.

Ashley: Oh darling, that’s where you are wrong. I know enough about you. I know about your drunken father. I know about the little favors you used to do to businessmen in order to pay for your studies. And, I know about our affair. So, if you know what’s good for your beloved reputation, stay away from Taiwo before I go to the press and tell them your story.

Yinka: I am not ashamed of my past Ashley. If you want, you can shout to the whole world that I had an affair with a woman. You go ahead and shout it. If you want to go to the press to do so, you might as well tell them that I am expecting a child from Taiwo Oluokon.

Ashley: Well Yinka, that makes two of us then. I am also pregnant…
