IT’S COMPLICATED – PART 2

I stood there and could not move. We both stared at each other like we just saw ghosts. That moment suddenly felt like an eternity of confusion and shock. Suddenly, I felt like it was just two of us in the room.  Then, he stretched his hands towards me and forced a smile. I snapped out of my thoughts and shook his hands. We both pretended not to know each other. Mr. Osas continued with the introduction, “Her name is Beatrice. I want you to make her feel at home and help her. She is your sister. Please help her carry her bags to her room”. Ehis moved towards me and carried my luggage. He smiled to my mom and asked me to follow him to my room. I walked behind him as we went up the stairs. He didn’t say anything until we entered my room.

Once I entered, he closed the door and started to pace around the room. I stood there waiting for him to speak first. I was in a state of shock and confusion, I didn’t know what to think. He still looked just as handsome as I had seen him on the video calls, and I was still in love and attracted to him. He broke the silence and said, “I can’t believe you are the one they told me about”. I looked up, he was still pacing around the room and avoiding my face. The room was silent again. Then, the voice of Mr. Osas calling us both broke the silence. He looked at me with confusion in his eyes, and left the room without saying another word.

I went to the bed and laid for a minute. I couldn’t think and my mind was blank. So, I stood up, changed my clothes and went down to meet them. Everyone was waiting for me. Mr. Osas suggested we all go eat dinner at KFC. When we got to the car, Ehis and I sat in the back seat in silence. Suddenly, Ehis put his hands on mine. I jerked out of my thoughts, out of surprise and removed my hands immediately. I looked at him, but he avoided looking back.  I wanted to know what thoughts were running through his mind. I thought, “Is he as confused as I am?”. We stayed away from each other for the rest of the evening. When we got to the restaurant, he sat beside his dad, across from me and mom. He was sitting right in front of me, and looking at me. I had my head down the whole time and avoided his eyes until Mr. Osas asked, “Are you ok dear?”. I responded with a nod. Then he continued, “you have been quiet since we got to Lagos. You are probably missing grandma”. Hearing about my grandma brought a smile to my face. I smiled and decided to drink from my glass of water to hide my shyness, then my phone beeped. It was a text message and I quickly opened it. I was glad I got distracted but the message was from Ehis. It says, “Infectious smile, my heart melts”. I almost smiled again, then I remembered he was right in front of me, staring.

I avoided looking at him all through and had my meal mostly nodding and smiling at Mr. Osas and my mom. When we got home, everyone was tired. I told them I was going to bed when we got in, to avoid any chit-chatting. I got to my room and locked the door immediately.

I laid on my bed, dazed and confused. Then, I decided to call Niniola. I explained everything to Niniola and she was just as shocked.

Niniola:  Girl! This could be fate. Maybe destiny wants you guys to be together. He is not your blood, so the “brother and sister” thing is not real.

Me: But we live in the same house.

Niniola: So, na your mama born am? Anyway, how did he look when you saw him?

Me: I won’t lie, he was even more handsome than he looked on video. I am so attracted to him. I don’t know what I am going to do. I am so confused.

Niniola: There is nothing complicated about this. You are both in love, just go with the flow.

Me: (deep sigh) … anyway, let me go to bed. We are going to church tomorrow morning.

Niniola: Alright girl! Kiss him well for me (laughs)

Me: Good night.

I ended the call and laid still on the bed, thinking about what Niniola said. Then I received a text message on my phone. It was Ehis, “You are more beautiful in person. I couldn’t take my eyes off you all night”. I responded, “Thank you.  You didn’t look bad yourself”. We continued to chat until late, then I told him I was about to sleep.

The next morning, I woke up and started to get ready for church. I was so conscious of what I would wear. I wanted to look good for Ehis, but I didn’t want it to be obvious. I wore a tight fitted green knee length dress, with red shoes. I looked at the mirror multiple times that morning, just to make sure I was perfect. I concluded I made the right fashion decision because when Ehis saw me, I could see him struggling to take his eyes off me. I smiled inwardly, “mission accomplished”.

On Monday, mom called me and told me that she and Mr. Osas would be having their court wedding on Friday, and they would be going to Jamaica on Saturday. I asked her how long they would be gone for and she said one week.  Throughout that week, I avoided Ehis and only communicated by texting.  All I could think about was the shock of staying in the house alone with Ehis. I decided I must be strong and avoid him. I planned to focus on my studies and occupy my mind with getting ready to start the university.

My mom looked gorgeous for her wedding. I helped her with everything, making sure everything went as planned for her. The next day, Ehis and I drove them to the airport. As we said our goodbyes to mom and Mr. Osas, mom turned to me and said with a smile, “Beatrice, please take care of Vincent. You know he is a guy, don’t starve him”. And Ehis started to smile. I nodded to her and wove to them as they headed towards the security check. Once they were out of sight, I turned around and we headed to the car.  We drove home in silence and I went straight to my room once we got home.

I stayed in my room the whole day. I was determined to avoid him as much as I could. Around 6pm, I went to the kitchen to make dinner. I cooked some rice and chicken. I hadn’t heard from Ehis all day, and I liked it that way. Dinner was getting cold, so I had to inform him. I thought about sending him a text message, but it could sound rude. I stood there debating, wondering why I was complicating the issue of just reaching out to him for dinner. I told myself, “He is your brother, and he is not all that cute anyway”. So, I started to walk towards his room and saw him heading towards me shirtless. I immediately wanted to run back, but it was too late, he already saw me. He said, “I thought you were going to keep avoiding me. Anyway, I am about to starve to death and I am sure you don’t want me calling your mom to report you”. I smirked and responded, “I wasn’t avoiding you. Why should I avoid you?” He moved closer to me immediately and gently pushed me to the wall. He pressed his shirtless hard chest on me, his nose almost touching mine and said, “you can’t deny how we both feel about each other”. He continued to stare into my eyes. I couldn’t think, his smell was that of a sweet rainforest. I could feel his masculinity as he sensually stroked my hands. When I didn’t respond, he moved his gaze from my eyes to my lips and slowly planted kisses, waiting for my reaction. I didn’t know when my hands went around his neck and kissed him back. He moaned passionately as he drove deeper into the kiss, using his hands to caress the back of my neck. It felt so good I could barely think. Suddenly, I realized what was happening and pushed back. He continued to look at me with so much passion in his eyes as we both tried to catch our breath.

I regained my strength and hurried past him into the kitchen. He followed slowly behind me. I pointed at his food without saying a word, grabbed my food and hurried out of the kitchen to my room.

I entered my room and closed the door. As I laid on my bed, I could still feel his lips on mine. I couldn’t think, it felt so good but so wrong at the same time. “I just kissed my brother”, I thought, and the worst part was, I liked it. I laid there, replaying the kiss in my head when a knock on the door distracted me. I stood up and went to the door, “What is it?” I asked. He responded, “Can I talk to you?”. I stood there for some minutes then slowly opened the door. He was still shirtless and had so much passion in his eyes. We stared at each other for some seconds, and before I knew what was happening, we grabbed each other and passionately started kissing again. I pulled his bare chest closer and dug my nails into his back. He carried me into his hands and headed for the bed. We made love with so much tenderness in the air.

We laid the on the bed in silence. I broke the silence and said, “I just made love to my brother” ….
